The Instruments window consists of three parts.
The first part is the toolbar at the top of the window. There are five buttons which do the following: load instruments, save current instrument, edit current instrument, delete current instrument, and play current instrument. The current instrument is the instrument that is selected.
The second part is the instruments list. Here you will see an icon to the left. There will be a at the left if that slot contains an instrument. The names of the instruments are listed to the right. For more information about the current instrument,. you can look at the info to the right of the instrument list. You may have to expand the Instruments window by clicking the zoom box to display the info area. You can also press return to display a window allowing you to play the current instrument as well as edit several attributes. Double-clicking on an instrument in the instrument list will play that instrument. You can drag an instrument to move it to a different slot. Option-drag an instrument to make a copy in a different slot.
The third part of the Instruments window is the instrument info area to the right of the instruments list. You may have to expand the Instruments window by clicking the zoom box to display the info area. This area displays the size, volume, looping info, and finetune offset of the current instrument. If the size is zero, then there is no instrument in the selected slot.
The keyboard window contains a picture of a keyboard at the upper half. There are small lights above each key, and any keyboard equivalents are drawn on their respective keys on the keyboard picture. Below the keyboard is the setting for which octaves are displayed. The octave range is 0-6. You can set the lowest octave displayed.
To expand the keyboard window, click the zoom box at the top right corner of the window.
The Music Desktop is divided into two major areas: the button bar and the music list.
The button bar is the row of large pictures across the top of the window. They are in order: new song, open, save, play, edit, remove (from music list.) To stop playing a song, click on the play button which should be labeled "Stop."
The music list is the box below the button bar and offset to the right. Here each opened song is listed. Each song is listed by name, size and playing time. The button below the music list alphabetizes the list. To the left of this button is a memory graph showing how much memory is used/free. Clicking on this graph displays more specific information.
To the left of the music list is an information area that displays the number of voices, instrument, and patterns in the current song (the song selected in the music list.)
The pattern name of the currently viewed pattern is the title of the window. The small buttons on the bottom left of the window are the following: previous pattern, pattern list, following pattern, place bookmark, bookmark list. The first three are used to changed the displayed pattern. The last two are for creating and listing bookmarks.
To insert notes, click in the text box labeled "Note". A note consists of the note letter (ie: 'A'-'G'); the modifier which can be a sharp ('#'), a flat ('-'), or a natural (' ' [space]); and the octave (0-6). Every other block of four lines is colored yellow to mark off the individual beats.
See the Keys section to see which keyboard keys are supported. If you enter a 'B#' or a 'C-', MacMod Pro will automatically convert it to a 'C ' or 'B ' to simplify the display.
The spacing for each type of note under normal speed settings are:
1 space = sixteenth note
2 spaces = eighth note
4 spaces = quarter note
8 spaces = half note
16 spaces = whole note
Voices or lines can be hilited by clicking on their labels. For example, to hilite all of voice 1 you would click where 'Voice 1' is written in the window. Other portions of the music can be hilited by holding the mouse button down and dragging across the window.
To use the 'Find' item of the Options menu, you must choose what to search for (note, instrument, or effect). Then you must choose which note, instrument, or effect to search for. The format for entering a note is the note letter (A-G) followed by a #, -, or space followed by an octave number (0-6).
The Sequence window is divided into two parts: the toolbar and the sequence table.
The toolbar contains four buttons which do the following in order: clear slot, find pattern, goto slot, and edit pattern.
The sequence table lists the patterns to be played when the current song is played. Both the pattern number and name is listed to the right of the number of each slot. There is a small icon to the left of each slot. Clicking on this icon pops up a menu of available patterns to be played at the current slot. Double-clicking a slot will play the pattern set for that slot. Dragging a slot will move the pattern it contains to a different slot. Option-dragging will copy the current slot's contents. Press return to edit the pattern contained in the current slot.
Notes:
You cannot have any "gaps" in the sequence table. You must fill the slots in order starting with the first slot. You cannot skip a slot or MacMod Pro will not be able to play or save the song.
The toolbar is divided into 2 parts:
The left part contains 7 general, non-customizable buttons:
The first button (from left to right) will display a list of the clipboards when the mouse button is held down. The next four buttons grouped together stop, pause, play, and fast-forward a song respectively. The next two buttons are the master volume control and the song speed control. When the mouse button is held down over these buttons, a slider control will pop-up beneath the button.
The right part of the toolbar contains customizable function buttons. To arrange these buttons, choose "Edit Toolbar" from the Edit menu.
